Back to it

Tonight, after a five week break, we are back to our regular Sew and Sews night of a Thursday catch up to sew and share what we have been sewing. It is such a great way to learn, keep motivated, drink a few bubbles and laugh. I am sure I sew less when we don't meet. So here's to all the worlds sewing groups....cheers

To Market Two

My second market for the year has made me realise the difficult economic reality of selling quilts. Unless the buyer really loves and has a good reason...such as a baby or a birthday then most people think that they are too expensive if you charge the full tote odds for the fabric ...and a bit for your time. Sad but true. And all the other lovely things we made for the market that sold last time....they did not sell either. I think retail is just too hard. I might give the Christmas market One last go but after that....probably not. But we did have a fine day out ....and I sold some of these

It is nearly the end of September and my blogging has been sadly lacking. I must subsicribe to the mantra 'guilt free blogging' and only post when I have the time, inclination and energy. But I have done lots of sewing in the past few weeksand it would be a shame to not to capture at least some photos of these quilts. There are alos a few stories relatined to some of them that I will cacth up on some day soon. But for now here are some I prepared earlier....

Quilts 1700-1945 Too

Last weekend with my friend Theresa at Sew and Sews I headed off for Brisbane for the Quilts 1700-1945 exhibition. There were lots of wonderful things about this weekend and this short trip away has fed my soul to last through the final few weeks of winter. To begin with the weather was so perfect and sunny it seemed a shame to be inside. But of course that is what we had flown 1000 miles to do. Look at quilts. And they were so worth the effort. This exhibition has a range of styles and types, some that I loved, some not to my taste and some that I would never have considered looking at before but they all told a story and they connected me to this whole crazy quilting thing that I so love. Just thinking about the conditions that these wonderful women (and a few men) had to make such amazing quilts made my brain hurt. But it is still that thread of stitching together small bits of fabric to make bigger bits of fabric that inspires me. So much so that since I have been home I have made a quilt that involves all sorts of small blocks and classic ancient quilting ideas. And that makes me very happy.
