Quilts 1700-1945 Too

Last weekend with my friend Theresa at Sew and Sews I headed off for Brisbane for the Quilts 1700-1945 exhibition. There were lots of wonderful things about this weekend and this short trip away has fed my soul to last through the final few weeks of winter. To begin with the weather was so perfect and sunny it seemed a shame to be inside. But of course that is what we had flown 1000 miles to do. Look at quilts. And they were so worth the effort. This exhibition has a range of styles and types, some that I loved, some not to my taste and some that I would never have considered looking at before but they all told a story and they connected me to this whole crazy quilting thing that I so love. Just thinking about the conditions that these wonderful women (and a few men) had to make such amazing quilts made my brain hurt. But it is still that thread of stitching together small bits of fabric to make bigger bits of fabric that inspires me. So much so that since I have been home I have made a quilt that involves all sorts of small blocks and classic ancient quilting ideas. And that makes me very happy.

Not Good

I am a lousy blogger. I have lots of blogs in my head and I have lots of good intentions but cant seem to get the time with the technology and the images all lined up at the same time. Sad but true and as we all know waht is a blooig without photos!!!. And I didnt want to have a whol month missing on my list of blogs so this is my July post with a list of the things I want to blog abouit when I get around to it.... Scotsburn

We have had a lovely long weekend at my friend Rhonda's in Scotsburn near Ballarat. It was a lovely visit replete with food, friendship and bonfires. As gifts for my friend and daughter a few quilts were thrown in as well. They are very useful in chilly country Victoria.

Musings

I often find that quilts say things that you can't. Like I am sorry you are sad, or I hope you get better. And with the age I am a few parents of friends are dying and I find quilts are the perfect bunch of flowers. This one was for Leonie....

A finish for Sam

A good six months ago I was asked to make a quilt for colleagues son for his 16th birthday. We had a look at fabrics at spotlight and my friend wanted something the represented all of her sons loves, interest and heritage. working to a brief was new to me but I gave it a go. The defiant ekes we're a union jack, tartan, a Danish flag and music. And the colours were to be blacks, greys and white. Quite an ask but armed with the fabulous colour matched at Hawthorne Threads I set to work. Using the lovely Arcitecture range and some music prints I set to work. It was lovely to do, a challenge for me but Sam loves it and my friend is thrilled with results.
