My first scrap quilt

This week I made my first quilt out of scrap pieces that I had left over rather than buying especially for a project. I am donating it H's school to auction at the quiz night. I must say I am very pleased with the results to date - but I still have to quilt it - still not comfortable with my free motion attempts so will quilt in straight lines ( or as straight as I can get them!!)

Another week

Another week of sewing and one quilt finished one top finished and one pieced and backed and ready to quilt. H is happily using his new purple and black skull and cross bones quilt but drags it from the bed to the couch and back.
His Mario quilt should be next on my list but I have started a quilt for the school Quiz Night to auction, so maybe Mario after that one. And G is still asking for her new red one to be finished and now A has decided that our bed is too cold and could we have a new one for us please - so many quilts - so little time.

Free Motion 101

Nine hours at the machine this weekend and I am sort of mastering 'free motion quilting ' with my new darning foot that I picked up on Saturday. I am quilting a purple, black and skull and cross bones quilt of H's bed and he is itching for it to be finished. I am also learing the hard way the importance of corrrect measuring and cutting as the top piece of my quilt is very wonky - I am sure there is lesson to be learnt about trying to make things too quickly!!. But the swurly, curvy quilting does make it look lovely and I am sure that even with a few wonky bits H will still be happy.

No Sew

Sew and Sews which is usually on at my house on Thursdays didnt happen last night for the second week in a row - too wet, too cold, too sick, too busy - I fully understand. But I kept sewing G's red disappearing nine patch quilt and with some effort on my part I plan to finish the piecing this weekend- and maybe have a play with some free motion quilting with the darning foot on the new Elna that I bought myself for mother's day. Rain forecast so no excuse not to stay inside and sew!

Quilt number Two

This was my second attempt - too complicated but OK for a beginner

Quilt Number One

Here is is a picture of the first quilt that I made . It is using Umbrella Fabrics ( thanks Carly) and denim. It was made becasue of a request from G for a red room. Ended up beinga bit hot and heavy , hence the request for a new red quilt - which is well on the way to being finished!!.

The beginning

Theresa at Sews and Sews and I are clearly on the same wave length. Without any conversation this week we have both started disappearing nine patch red quilts for our 12 year old daughters. Spooky!!
