Like many Australian quilters I have followed the Purl Blog from the gorgeous NYC yarn and fabric shop Purl Soho. So it was On my must see list. A small shop and not a huge range but run by lovely staff and OMG the prices. Kona solids for less than $10 a meter. Did a little shopping.....

Food glorious food
I have been overwhelmed by the quality, taste, style and price of American food. Everything has been fresh delicious stylish and with appropriate serving sizes- we were never overwhelmed by the size of the meals- despite the myth that all American food is huge and fried. We only ever once had French fries, when we ordered them at The Standard, and they were delicious. So here are a few highlights and some pictures:
Roast chicken, fennel and radish salad at the Met
Rare beef, sumac and chickpea salad at the MOMA
Chicken pailliard and frisée at The Monkey Bar
Artichoke and prosciutto pizza at Eataly
Beef tenderloin and Munster gratin at The Modern
Amazing tacos and marguerites at chipotle
French 75 at every opportunity- my new drink
Frisée and coddled egg salad at Cafe Sarkarzy
Lemon and ricotta ravioli at Eataly
Home made spinach and ricotta ravioli at Cellini
All great meals.....

BBG
Known as BBG the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens is a gorgeous haven of colour and calm in busy Brooklyn. It was cherry blossom season and other highlights were the lilac walk, the tulips and the tree peonies. Another lovely morning in NYC.
Oh Moma
What an amazing museum. So many fabulous paintings and the best museum shop I have ever seen. Another fantastic day- and we got to go to the Guggenheim as well. Perfect again ...........

When Harry met Russ
Although Katz's Deli is a NYC institution thanks to When Harry Met Sally my native New Yorker friend said that Russ and Daughters three doors up was better - and boy was she right. Finally got to eat lox and cream cheese on a bagel - out the front in the sunshine with a lemon & beet
shrub!!!! But I still took the Katz's shot as well!

A view with a loo
Although I am not one to harp on about the trials and tribulations of public amenities when on holiday the extraordinary toilets at the The Standard hotel are something I cannot refrain from mentioning!

The Standard
Four separate friends on two continents told Mum and I to have a drink at The Standard Hotel-and it certainly did not disappoint. And thanks to Richard I discovered the French 75. Mmmmmmm

Find the Fake
The difference between USA and the UK. One has a 12th century cellarium in situ and one pinched a chapter house from Spain. Can you spot the difference?
Central Park
An early morning, thanks to mild jet lag saw us walking in Central Park at 8.30 on a glorious sunny Saturday morning. No cars in the park on weekends and lots of joggers, walkers and dogs . Busy bustly and so lovely. Hailed a cyclo ridden by Dorien from Moldova and took a tour for hour to all the Central Park highlights. He insisted on pointing out every film and television site even though Mum insisted that he skip this bit. Lots of highlights and lots of pictures . A wonderful morning and so very special to be sharing it with Mum.
